Thirteen students from École secondaire Hanmer are getting the chance to attend We Day in Montreal Feb. 23 thanks to contributions from WestJet and the Staples store on The Kingway.
The students were presented with plane tickets, sunglasses and school bags.
They have been given this opportunity because of their work, dedication and contribution in their community, a press release said.
“For the third consecutive year, WestJet and UNIS, the Francophone arm of the We Movement, have united their efforts to give deserving students the opportunity to join with thousands of like-minded youth as they attend We Day for the first time,” said the press release.
We Day events like the one the students will be attending feature internationally known artists and motivational speakers who share their inspiring stories of change.
“École secondaire Hanmer is very involved in its community. Among other activities, the school held Bacon Bonanza, 'a 100% pure bacon event' that allowed students to collect donations and contributions for the Elgin Street Mission in downtown Sudbury.
“Hanmer students also take part in We Movement events, such as the 'We Stand in Silence' campaign to raise awareness for children’s rights. Last year, they raised $2,000 to support a clean water project in Haiti for a community associated with the We movement.”
We Day is a celebration of youth making a difference in their local and global communities. We Schools is the yearlong program that nurtures compassion in young people and gives them the tools to create transformational social change.
Together they offer young people the tools and the inspiration to take social action, empower others and transform lives—including their own.
