Pier 1 is one of the North America?s largest specialty retailer of imported decorative home furnishings and gifts. It has plans to open 100 new stores in the United States and Canada this year.

The Sudbury store has more than 30 full- and part-time employees. Chad Olson is the store manager.

There was a ?soft? opening last Saturday. According to Olson, 3,000 people visited the new store.

Sudbury and District Health Unit is looking for new Eat Smart! restaurants.

Eat Smart! is a province-wide program that awards restaurants for meeting high standards in food safety, healthier menu choices both on the menu and by request, and smoke-free seating for their patrons.

Public health inspectors check out all Eat Smart! restaurants to ensure program standards are met.

Smoke-free, clean restaurants that offer healthy food choices and have staff trained in safe food handling procedures are the ultimate Eat Smart! goals.

Free publicity consultations, displays and an annual awards ceremony are offered as incentives for restaurants to join the program.

Eat Smart! partners include the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, Canadian Cancer Society and the Sudbury Heart Health Coalition.

Laurentian University?s Placement Centre will host its annual Career Grad Night Thursday, March 6, from 7 to 10 pm, in the Science II cafeteria, located in the Fraser Building.
