YES Theatre presents Oliver!

The Charles Dickens classic and Tony Award Winning Musical “Oliver!” takes the stage as YES Theatre’s Holiday Show. The rags to riches story of the orphan named Oliver Twist who escapes from a workhouse and embarks on a journey through London. Don’t miss the beloved tunes in all their glory, including "Consider Yourself" and "Food, Glorious Food," as the company explores the true meaning of home and the enduring power of hope and kindness. Gutsy Runway toilet paper fashion show

Lovers of fun and fashion are in for a treat with the presentation of the Gutsy Runway toilet paper fashion show taking place at the Chartwell Meadowbrook in Lively. The event will have a fairytale theme and is to take place on Friday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. Funds raised will go to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada for research to find cures and services to improve the quality of life of Canadians affected by these diseases. Participants will model their toilet paper dresses on the runway. Hauz Noir will provide entertainment, and there will be a cash bar, charcuterie cups, and a silent auction, said a news release. Friends and supporters can purchase tickets online by visiting the local website. Tickets are $30 each or $100 for four attendees. People are also invited to donate to the event.
Dinner Theatre: Till Beth Do Us Part

If you enjoyed the Sweet Delilah Swim Club two seasons ago, you will love this one! Career-driven Suzannah Hayden needs a lot more help on the home front than she’s getting from her husband, Gibby. Lately, nurturing his marriage of twenty-seven years hasn’t been the highest priority for Gibby, but pretty soon he’ll wish it had been. This Sudbury Performance Group dinner theatre production runs Wednesday through Saturday. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with a performance at 7:30 p.m. Saturday matinee, doors open at 11 a.m., with the performance at 12:30 p.m. (lunch before the show). The work of artist Gigi Dequanne will be featured at Art & Soul Gallery Nov. 23 to Dec. 20. An opening reception takes place Nov. 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Art & Soul Gallery is located at 6 Baker St., and is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from noon to 4 p.m.
New Space Race panel discussion

SNOLAB and the Doran Planetarium at Laurentian University are teaming up for a discussion on the new space race. Entitled "Co-petition: Advancing Collaboration for Scientific Exploration in the New Era of Space Race", the discussion will be held from 2-3:15 p.m. at the Doran Planetarium. The afternoon will include a night sky show in the planetarium with live music, including a performance of the song "Grandmother Moon" by Eleanor Daley based on the poem by poet Mary Louise Martin. GNO presents Faces by Wayne Mayer

Textile art is a great passion that Wayne Mayer has been pursuing for decades. “Faces” is the meticulous and colourful work it has brought forth. The exhibition features an assemblage of some 50 faces, at once diverse and similar. As Wayne explains: “Basically, each face has a uniqueness that sets it apart from the next, even though we are all the same.” This GNO exhibit runs until Nov. 27 at Place des Arts.
Cinéfest Red Carpet film screening

Cinéfest Sudbury has announced the final film of 2024 in its Cinéfest Red Carpet Patron Program. “Woman of the Hour,” the directorial debut of Academy Award-nominated actor Anna Kendrick, will screen at SilverCity Sudbury on Nov. 27 at 7 p.m. The 1970s-set drama is the stranger-than-fiction story of an aspiring actor (Anna Kendrick of “Up in the Air” and “Pitch Perfect”) in 1970s Los Angeles and a serial killer during a years-long murder spree, whose lives intersect when they’re cast on an episode of “The Dating Game”. Sudbury Arts Council AGM

The Sudbury Arts Council (SAC) invites the community to their AGM, which they bill as “one of the best” in the region.The Arts Council rolls out the red carpet Wednesday, Nov 27 at 7 p.m. at Indie Cinema on Mackenzie Street. The evening opens with a performance by the Nickel City Sound Quartet followed by the annual meeting. Complimentary popcorn and beverages are provided for all attendees and the first ten to arrive receive a pair of Indie Cinema tickets to be used at the winner’s convenience. There are door prizes for a lucky few. Be the first to hear about the SAC’s exciting 50th Anniversary project, which encompasses 50 years of the arts in Greater Sudbury. During the evening, all artists and organizations are invited to share their latest projects and events with everyone in attendance, an opportunity to promote to arts supporters. Memberships of $20 for individuals and $35 for arts organizations are available on site. Guests do not need a membership to attend. All are welcome. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

School board hosts talk for parents, guardians

The Sudbury Catholic District School Board (SCDSB) invites parents, guardians, and community partners to attend its upcoming community event Nov. 28. The event will feature a keynote address by Dr. Jody Carrington — bestselling author, psychologist, podcaster and public speaker. Renowned for her expertise in enhancing individual and organizational performance through human connection, Carrington has delivered hundreds of inspiring keynote addresses to educators, companies, and non-profits across the country. Most recently, she was featured on the Today Show, where she shared valuable insights on fostering connection and preventing burnout. During the event with the SCDSB, Carrington will lead an engaging discussion focused on strengthening relationships within our school communities, fostering meaningful connections, and building resilience. SSO’s Christmas Kick-Off

For a jolly start to the festive season, the SSO teams up with the Young Sudbury Singers, Bel Canto Chorus and the Sudbury Chamber Singers. Les Troubadours concert

A tradition endures when it is truly imbued with life. This choir was formed 30 years ago, it has radiated warmth and joy, nurtured friendship in harmony and wholeheartedly shared the vivid emotions conveyed by choral music. For these invigorating voices of our community, La Slague will provide a rehearsal space and will produce this year’s Christmas event. Director Jean O’Hanley is preparing a concert that embodies both the holiday spirit and a beautiful Sudbury tradition. The concert takes place Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. at Place des Arts. Nickel City Sound concert “Snowed Inn”

Nickel City Sound Sudbury’s Women’s Barbershop Chorus presents Snowed Inn Dec. 1, a celebration of song in four part harmonies. Under the direction of Jennifer Huss, Nickel City Sound chorus will fill the air with your favourite holiday tunes along with some timeless classics. Guest performances by Sudbury Secondary School’s Star Fire Choir and Brass Quintet will add to the festivities. The concert will take place on Sunday, Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. at Sudbury Secondary School’s Sheridan Auditorium. Admission for this show will be $20 for adults and $10 for youth 17 and under. Tickets may be purchased at Sudbury Secondary School, Jett Landry, at www.nickelcitysound.ca or from any chorus member. A limited number of tickets will be sold at the door. Donations to the food bank are greatly appreciated by the group.
Nouveau Louvre

For its 29th edition, the GNO is back with its long-awaited annual event: le Nouveau Louvre, a holiday art sale! For the occasion, the gallery walls will be plastered with works by your favorite local and regional artists. Shop in person at the GNO (or online at gn-o.org!) to find that rare gem. All works are sold for $225. Profits are shared between the artist and the GNO. First come, first served.
Art Gallery of Sudbury exhibitions

With the Bell Mansion closed due to structural issues, the Art Gallery of Sudbury has rented space at 172 and 174 Elgin St., on the same strip as Sudbury Custom Paint and Framing, to house its gallery shop and some exhibitions. An exhibition by zombie artist Rob Sachetto is on display on Elgin Street until Nov. 23. The gallery also runs off-site exhibitions, currently including Catherine Jaftha at Pinchman’s until Jan. 6 and Bennett Malcolmson at Laughing Buddha Jan. 13. Learn more on the gallery’s website.
