Who's the chair and vice-chair at your local school board?

Three of four local school boards have recently chosen their leaders for the next year

Trustees with three of the four local school boards have recently elected the people who will be leading their respective organizations over the next year.

That includes Sudbury Catholic District School Board, Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario (CSPGNO) and Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO).

For its part, trustees with the Rainbow District School Board will choose their chair and vice-chair at a Dec. 13 meeting — we'll let you know who's been elected after that meeting.

Last year, Doreen Dewar and Dena Morrison, both veteran trustees with the Rainbow board, were acclaimed chair and vice-chair, respectively.

In terms of Sudbury Catholic, Michael Bellmore will return as chair alongside vice-chair Ray Desjardins. Bellmore said on his Facebook page Dec. 6 said he's “humbled, honoured and proud to have been re-elected” to the position.

Trustees with CSPGNO re-elected Jean-Marc Aubin as board chair Dec. 3.

Anne-Marie Gélineault is the vice-chair for the districts of Algoma and Thunder Bay and Donald Pitre is vice-chair for the district of Sudbury-East.

Aubin “has an extensive background in education,” said a press release.

“Best known for his community and political commitment, Mr. Aubin has been an advocate of Francophone rights for over 25 years. Recipient of the Jean-Robert-Gauthier Award, Jean-Marc Aubin continues to promote and devote himself to improving French-language public education in Ontario. Mr. Aubin is pleased to be able to work with enthusiastic trustees who are dedicated to providing all students with a learning experience that is second to none.”

Trustees with CSCNO named André Bidal the school board's president and Normand Courtemanche vice-president during their Dec. 2 meeting.

“I take great pride in being selected to represent once again the CSCNO,” said Bidal, in a press release.
