WHEO, short for We Help Each Other, is a social club that makes life more easier for it members. The club, which has about 80 members, celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.
“We are a venue for socializing. We play cards, crib, 500 and Euchre; we chit chat; then have a short meeting to organize our dances ,” said president Eileen Alain.
Originally WHEO was for widows and widowers, but the group has opened the membership to other single adults.
Friendship has led to romance for some members who range in age from the early 50s to late 80s.
“I know of at least three marriages in the past 10 years that have resulted from our social activities. Some tell me that WHEO is the only social group they attend. They get enough satisfaction from our activities, from birthday celebrations to teas and yard sales,” said Alain.
The anniversary dance at Lockerby Legion last weekend was sold out. Another dance will be held Saturday, Oct. 14 at the legion on Long Lake Rd. Meetings are held at Salle d’ Accueil behind St. Brebeuf Church on Kathleen St.
