The Winter Storm Warning issued Saturday and extended into Sunday, has been lifted.

Original Story

The Winter Storm Warning issued for Greater Sudbury by Environment Canada Saturday has been extended to Sunday afternoon.

Heavy snow and blowing snow from the night before are expected to continue into the morning, accumulating to an additional 2-5 cm of snowfall in many areas.

Total snowfall amounts of 15-20 cm are expected in many areas, with amounts near 25 cm possible in locales near the North Bay and Nipissing areas.

Northeast winds gusting to 60 km/h introduce a strong likelihood of blowing snow, resulting in frequent very low to nil visibility, especially in exposed areas.

Environment Canada asks motorists to prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions caused by rapidly accumulating snow.

If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.

The winter storm should end late Sunday morning as the moisture-laden Texas low moves away from the Great Lakes Area.
