The Sudbury Wolves earned their third point out of a possible six during the weekend in a-hard fought overtime against the third-place team in the Ontario Hockey League, the Niagara IceDogs in St. Catharines.

Nate Krawchuk served as netminder for the Wolves while the IceDogs went with Owen Flores in net.

Niagara didn’t waste any time putting the puck in the net, as it took only 33 seconds for them to score the first goal of the hockey game, thanks to Sean Doherty’s third goal of the season to give the IceDogs an early 1-0 lead.

With 12:38 remaining in the opening period, Ondrej Molnar scored his second goal of the season, and his second goal in a Sudbury Wolves uniform, to tie the game 1-1.

Despite the Niagara IceDogs carrying the play for a good part of the second period, they couldn’t put the puck past Krawchuk in the period, leaving both teams deadlocked at one goal apiece with one period left to play in regulation time.

At the 4:11 mark of the third period, Ethan Czata scored his fourth goal of the season to put the IceDogs back on top by a score of 2-1.

With 6:35 remaining in the third period, Nathan Villeneuve scored his fifth goal of the season to once again tie the game for the Wolves, making the score 2-2.

14:09 into the third period, Niagara would once again take the lead thanks to Max Crete’s sixth goal of the season, giving the IceDogs a 3-2 lead.

With 3:14 left to play in regulation, Quentin Musty scored his second goal of the season, and his second goal in three games since returning to the Sudbury Wolves’ lineup, to tie the game 3-3 and send the game into overtime.

53 seconds is all it took for a winner to be decided in overtime, as Kevin He scored his 12th goal of the season to seal a 4-3 win for the Niagara IceDogs over the Sudbury Wolves.

With the loss in overtime, the Wolves secured a point and now hold a record of eight wins, six regulation time losses, and one overtime loss on the season.

The Sudbury Wolves have four days off before returning home to the Den on Nov. 8, with a game against division rivals the Barrie Colts. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
