The worker who died on the job south of Greater Sudbury on Wednesday was employed by the Bancroft, Ont. contractor that's four-laning Highway 69 in the French River area.

An employee of J&P Leveque Brothers Haulage Ltd. out of Bancroft, Ont., the worker was electrocuted while changing a bulb in a diesel generator light stand, said Janet Deline, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Labour.

The accident occurred on Highway 69 in the French River municipality, near Alban, she said.

“The worker was transported to hospital, where they were declared deceased,” she said.

The Ministry of Labour was notified of the worker's death around 5 p.m. Nov. 29. She said two Ministry of Labour inspectors have been assigned to look into the worker's death. No orders or requirements have been issued by the ministry so far.

The coroner also visited the scene of the worker's death, Deline said.

Sudbury.com has reached out to J&P Leveque Brothers for comment.

Last year, the tender for the four-landing of 14 kilometres of Highway 69 from north of Highway 607 to north of Highway 522 — that's in the French River area — was awarded to J&P Leveque Brothers.

The worker's death marks the fourth fatal workplace accident in the Greater Sudbury area so far in 2017.
