Wow! St. Charles collects 126K items for Sudbury Food Bank

School's fall food drive gets better and better every year

St. Charles College students had set a goal of collecting 60,000 food items for their yearly fall food drive. The school didn't just meet that goal, they smashed it, collecting 126,000 items.

The school has been holding the fall food drive since the mid 1980s, a press release said.

The drive is supported by St. Charles' feeder schools — Holy Trinity, St. Paul, St. John, St. David and Pius X.

“The wrap-up event today highlighted the accomplishments of the students but also the staff had to hold up its end of the bargain complete with staff pie in the face showdowns, shaved heads, dyed heads and waxed legs,” said a press release put out Oct. 25.

Principal Patty Mardero also said she wants to recognize the citizens who donated food during the drive.

“The food collected over the course of the last week was delivered to the Sudbury Food Bank warehouse today,” she said.

“This visit to the warehouse to unload is critical in helping students see the fruits of their labour as they lift each box of canned food and fill the shelves of the warehouse.”
