If you spot a large grey military aircraft over the South End this afternoon, don’t be alarmed: it’s just a training exercise.

The Sudbury unit of the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association (SUDSAR) and the 424 Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) are expected to be conducting training exercises in the area of Long Lake today.

You may notice a large C130 Hercules transport plane flying a low search pattern in the area of the lake as the crews hone their skills. You may also see parachutes.

The training involves crews located a ‘casualty’ on the ground and parachuting to the site for the rescue and extraction.

The training is expected to be conducted beginning at 4 p.m.
