Official Remembrance Day ceremonies will take place this Friday at Sudbury Arena. A parade of veterans will be formed starting at 10:15 outside Tom Davies Square (weather permitting), and proceed at 10:30 am to the arena. The ceremonies will start at approximately 11 am.
Area schools are taking part in services being held in other parts of the city. These activities include a Remembrance Day Ceremony today at Chelmsford District Composite School. Local legionaires will be in attendance as well as Nickel Belt MP Ray Bonin, Nickel Belt MPP Shelley Martel, trustee Tyler Campbell, Councillor Ron Bradley and school council member David Muldoon. A school choir will perform a tribute to veterans in recognition of the Year of the Veteran.
Larchwood Public School will host two Remembrance Day services Thursday. The colour party from the Royal Canadian Legion will conduct a service beginning at 9 am. Children will be involved in the laying of a wreath. There will also be class and choir presentations. The school will have a celebration of Peace beginning at 10:45 am Friday.
The Remembrance Day Assembly at Levack Public School will begin at 9 am Friday. Legion Branch 503 will participate and veterans in the community have also been invited. The primary classes will make banners to celebrate the Year of the Veteran. Students will perform a play and musical numbers. Singer Kevin Closs will close the concert with his rendition of Imagine and 'O Canada.
Lively District Secondary School students will host an assembly Friday morning. The ceremony will feature student speakers, a multimedia presentation, and a wreath-laying ceremony.
The ceremony will culminate with a moment of silence at 11 am. Students will also participate in the ceremony at Sudbury Arena.
