Sudbury Symphony releases 2022-23 season plans

Sudbury Symphony Orchestra has released its plans for the 2022-23 season.Trying to enhance the audience experience, and help build a strong downtown cultural hub, the SSO will bring some of its concerts into the downtown Sudbury core. SSO will stage some performances at the Sudbury Theater Centre and some at the new Place Des Arts theater, while returning to the Fraser Auditorium for the bigger concerts.

“We have a full and varied season ready for our audiences,” said executive director Jennifer Grant, in a press release. “Our first priority in this new post pandemic season is to produce a quality product that reaches deep into the community.”

The new season will have family tickets and subscriptions, Sunday afternoon concerts at Place des Arts and free Library concerts with a story. 

The SSO will also be expanding its school concerts program so as to give every child in Greater Sudbury the opportunity to experience live music.Main Series subscriptions and tickets will be sold through the STC box office, while tickets and subscriptions for the new Chamber Music Series, Sunday afternoons at the Place des Arts, will be sold through Place des Arts. 

The library series will be free to the public.

Jazz on the Rocks, Fraser Auditorium 

May 6, 2023

“Jazz on the Rocks” celebrates the return to Sudbury of virtuoso trombonist Christian Overton, as he joins the SSO and the Sudbury Jazz Orchestra on stage as we explore the overlap of the symphonic and the Jazz, with guest conductor Dick Van Raadshooven.Emerging Artist Showcase (venue TBD)

June 4, 2023 

The SSO delights with some audience favorites, backs up some young prize-winning soloists, and welcomes some young musicians to the stage to join in to perform side by side with the professionals, with guest conductor, Jamie Arrowsmith.
