We are officially a month away from Christmas Day and Downtown Sudbury offers the best gifts for under the tree.

Sudbury.com is back with another Morning Mugshot. This week, filling in for Julianne Joki, Mark Gentili caught up with Downtown Sudbury executive director Maureen Luoma to talk about all the festivities happening in December.

Over the first three Saturdays of December, families can enjoy free movies at Imagine Cinemas Downtown Movie Lounge in the Rainbow Centre. The movies will play at 11 a.m. and include National Lampoons Christmas Vacation (Dec. 7), The Polar Express (Dec. 14) and Grinch (2018) on Dec. 21.

After the show you can head over to Durham Street to hop on a horse-drawn wagon ride through downtown. Rides run from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. and depart from the YMCA on Durham Street.

The Downtown Sudbury Christmas Market will be happening in the newly redesigned Tom Davies Square Courtyard on Dec. 6 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Dec. 7 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Vendors will be on site selling food & drink as well as handmade crafts perfect for Christmas gifts.

Admission by donation. Proceeds to MS Society of Canada, Sudbury-Manitoulin Chapter.

The team behind the Downtown Sudbury Art Crawl is back at it Dec. 7 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The self-guided art crawl includes more than 20 venues featuring visual art and artists, pop-up acoustic music performances, and more.

Shop downtown and you can receive a free gift.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., on the first three Saturdays of December, the team from Downtown Sudbury invites you to visit their office at 115 Larch Street (St Andrew’s Building) to receive a free gift on behalf of our downtown businesses.

Customers with an accumulated $75(before tax) in receipts from downtown businesses, dated on or after Saturday, Nov. 16, are eligible for the gift. Each week is a different Christmas themed plant to help decorate your home, so each week we will stamp your $75 in receipts before returning them to you.

Dec. 7: Wreath or Swag
Dec. 14: Poinsettia plant
Dec. 21: Cyclamen Plant

Also, there are over $6,000 in gift certificates to be won just by visiting downtown businesses.

Simply fill out a ballot at participating businesses and you will be entered into a draw to win a gift basket of downtown gift certificates. Downtown Sudbury will select 3 winners each week in December leading up to Christmas. Check out Downtown Sudbury’s Facebook page for more information.
