A plan to build a three-storey, 275-bed long-term care facility on Silver Hills Drive in New Sudbury got the greenlight from the city's planning committee Monday. Also approved was a five-story retirement home with 160 rooms for residents.

The Ontario Municipal Board has dismissed a 2012 appeal from Dalron related to a 705-unit development it wanted to build in Minnow Lake.

Moonlight Avenue is now open to through traffic. Temporary lane closures may occur this week, between Bancroft Avenue and Hines Street, to allow for base paving. Once base paving is completed, phase one of the project will wind down for the season.

In what had to be the most colourful race anywhere in Sudbury this year, a record number of participants hit Moonlight Beach on Saturday morning for the annual Colours of Hope 5K run.

Event number five of the Sudbury Fitness Challenge got underway this morning with the Beaton Classic. The adult quadrathlon kicked off at Moonlight Beach at 9 a.m. and featured cycling, rowing, running and swimming.

Updated at 4 p.m. — As of 1 p.m. this afternoon, all customers in the Moonlight/Bancroft area of Greater Sudbury have their power restored, Greater Sudbury Utilities just announced.

Hydro One workers recently left a lot of upturned earth and large tracks from heavy equipment near Moonlight beach while replacing hydro poles, but the corporation is working on restoring the land, says a spokesperson.

A closed-set film production will limit parking at the Minnow Lake Dog Park March 31 to April 2. The dog park will remain open to walkers and their dogs.

The Sudbury and District Health Unit and the Ministry of the Environment are currently investigating a possible blue-green algal bloom at Moonlight Beach on Ramsey Lake.
