Allan David Akerman passed away peacefully at Maison McCulloch Hospice, at the age of 69, on September 14, 2022, with his loving wife and daughters by his side. Although we all knew this day was coming, it does not ease the sadness and overall feeling of loss. It is hard to find the right words to describe someone so special. We are all incredibly thankful to have had one last summer together as a family down at camp.

Beloved husband of Debbie (nee Chapman) for 41 years. Proud father of Tamra (Niels) and Krista. Father-in law extraordinaire to Craig Haddow. Loving Papa of Caeden, Easton, and Kellan Haddow. Son of Loretta and the late Marvin Akerman. Brother of Debbie Smyth’s and fondly remembered by his brother-in-law, Peter and family. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, friends, and his childhood best friends (the BB’s).

Allan graduated in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo followed by an MBA at Laurentian University. Allan had an amazing 30+ year career at INCO (Vale) and retired as the Superintendent of Central Maintenance. He continued his career at CEMI as R&D Program Director retiring in 2015. He was a man that held many roles and sat at many tables. He was awarded the CIM McPharland Memorial Award and Community Service Award in 2014 & 2015.

Allan became a paraplegic in 2006 and battled cancer for most of the last decade. He thrived despite these challenges and showed the world what optimism and perseverance could truly accomplish. Allan embodied the definition of a mentor. He proudly provided guidance and support too many lucky individuals including his two daughters in their careers. He inspired us to do more, dream bigger, and never stop believing in ourselves.

There is no place in the world he would rather be then down at camp in Killarney with family and friends. Either working on projects or sitting down at the campfire, his hard work and dedication created a magical place for his family and grandchildren to enjoy for many years to come. Although camp will be much different without him, it will always remain as his legacy.

Allan has left a remarkable impression of intelligence, love and bravery on everyone who met him, and his family will embody these memories.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in Allan’s memory to the amazing Maison McCulloch Hospice in Sudbury,    https://maisonsudburyhospice.org/donate/
