Loving and devoted mother of Dwayne (Crystal). Cherished Gram of Isabella of Sudbury, and Josh (Amy) of Hopewell, Nova Scotia, and great grandmother of Gabe. Predeceased by her parents William and Lillian Gallagher and brother Richard. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her sister-in-law Katherine, nephews, and nieces, and good friends Glenda Bennett of Ottawa, Marjorie Brosseau of Kelowna, British Columbia, Louise Spyrka of Sudbury, Marisa Michelizza of Garson, Karen Fisk of Michigan, and Hamed Almalak from the middle east.
Joan was devoted to raising her son as a single mother and being such a big part of her grandchildren Isabella and Josh’s lives. Known affectionately as Ms. Beck or Grandma Joan to many over the years. She worked at Cambrian College then started with Norcat and went on to be the company’s first retiree. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, being at the lake, spending quality time with her family, and her beloved cat Charlie. She was a dedicated member of Knox Presbyterian Church for many years and made many lasting friendships with members of the congregation, especially Mr. and Mrs. Hunter, Margaret, and Betty Hoobaile.
The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Main and the cardiac special team at Health Sciences North for their care, and a huge thank you to St. Joseph’s Continuing Care for taking such great care of her, especially nurses Jasmine S., Mona P., and night nurse Megan.
There will be no visitation or service. Cremation at the Park Lawn Crematorium with burial alongside her family in North Bay in the spring. Donations to Pet Save Sudbury or the Genevra House would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home.
