It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Dorothy Bernadette Belfry (nee Sullivan) on Thanksgiving Day, October 12th, 2020. Dorothy was born on January 9th, 1934 and raised in Sudbury. Dorothy found the only boy she ever loved when they were children. Dorothy married John Belfry in 1956, and spent the next 64 years holding his hand as they strolled through life. Dorothy was devoted to her family and was loyal and kind to all.

Dorothy was the daughter of Gertrude and Daniel Sullivan (both predeceased) and loving sister of Camille White (Bernard) (both predeceased), Robert Sullivan (Helen) (both predeceased), Nora Hartwig (predeceased) (Ken), and Jackie Sullivan (predeceased). She was the sister in law to Rev. Sr. Marvel Belfry (predeceased), Joseph Al Belfry (predeceased) (Anne), Garnet Belfry (predeceased), Margaret Belfry, and Edward Belfry (predeceased). Dorothy and John have three children, Margaret Riutta (Alan predeceased), Maureen Griffin (Tom), and John (Luann). They are the grandparents of Maria Gillard (Travis), Brittany Davis (Kevin), and Taylor Williamson. Their great grandchildren are Alice Gillard, Charlotte and Rachel Davis. They are the loving Aunt and Uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was a devout Catholic who prayed the rosary every day and had a strong devotion to the Blessed Mother. She was a member of Christ the King Church nearly all her life and was baptized and married there. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s League for 64 years. One of the highlights of her life is when she and John attended a Mass in Midland, Ontario in 1984 celebrated by Pope St. John Paul II. Dorothy worked at city hall in the 1950s until she began her family. Dorothy enjoyed gardening, camping and being outdoors. Through the years she and John enjoyed traveling.

Dorothy passed away at Health Sciences North. She took advantage of the moments there to make sure everyone in the family knew how special they were to her. The family would like to thank the entire staff at Health Sciences North for their compassion and kindness to Dorothy and the family.

Funeral Visitation at the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch Street, Sudbury. (Friends may call 2-5pm Sunday, with parish prayers 3pm Sunday. Due to COVID-19 Pandemic directives, 50 people or fewer are permitted in the visitation room, and face masks are mandatory.) Funeral Mass in Christ the King Church, 30 Beech Street, Sudbury, on Monday, October 19th, 2020 at 10am. (50 people or fewer are permitted in the church. The Mass can be viewed by livestream at christthekinglive.com. Cremation at the Park Lawn Crematorium.
