From the farms of Pomquet, Nova Scotia to the nickel mines of Sudbury, Ontario.  A life well lived.

It is with extreme sadness that the family of Charles (Charlie) Eloi Benoit announce his passing on April 1st, 2021.  He was born in Pomquet on February 12th, 1933 to Alice (nee DeYoung) and Leon Benoit.  At the age of 18, he drove to Sudbury, Ontario to find work in the mines.  He joined INCO at their Creighton Mine and worked underground for almost 40 years.  It was also in Sudbury where he met the love of his life, a wee Irish lass named Josephine (Josie) Keogh (predeceased 2012).  Together they made a home in Azilda, Ontario where they raised their six children: Bob (Kim), Gerry (Ann), Dean (Suzanne), Maureen (Nathan), Dennis (Anne) and Lori-Ann (Tim predeceased).

Charlie was known as a true family man.  He was one of ten children (Louis (predeceased), Fred, Martha, Bernie (predeceased), John, Leo (predeceased), Adele, Yvonne, Gerrard (predeceased); had six children, 13 grandchildren (Greg, Samantha, Lindsay, Caleb, Kelly, Tyler (predeceased), Tara, Kyle, Hannah, Benjamin, Claire, Adam and Christine) and four great-grandchildren (James, Jaxon, Jude Charles and Charlotte).

Besides his family, Charlie was passionate about many things, such as bowling, Euchre, Cribbage and jigsaw puzzles.  He was quite the self-taught handyman who was able to build decks, gazebos, dollhouses, swing sets and could even fix a car or two.  Back in the day, he enjoyed road trips with his family to Nova Scotia and summering on Manitoulin Island.

Charlie was a devout Catholic and his faith was very important to him.  He spent his last 13 years living in Oakville, Ontario.  His friendly, outgoing manner allowed him to make numerous friends, especially over the last six years while living at Delmanor Glen Abbey.  If so inclined, please make a donation in his honour to the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital.

The family takes great comfort in knowing that Charlie is now reunited with his beloved Josie.

A private funeral mass has been scheduled for Saturday, April 10th at 1:00.  Livestream is available. Information and online condolences may be offered at www.glenoaks.ca
