In Loving Memory of Tekla Bowschar (nee Wasylenko), 92 years who passed away on Sunday May 9, 2021 at Health Sciences North, Sudbury. Heaven has graciously embraced a beloved wife, mother, baba, and great grandmother on Mother’s Day. Born January 7, 1929 in Ouchitsky, Ukraine to Alexandra and Alexander Wasylenko (both predeceased). Tekla married Iwan Bowschar (predeceased) in Ghent, Belgium. They later immigrated to Canada in 1951. Loving mother of Michael (wife Susan) of Kingston both predeceased, Maria of St. Catharines, Valentina (husband Dan), and Katherine (husband Max) both of Sudbury. Beloved baba to eight grandchildren; Jennifer, Stephen, Kenny, Curtis, Mikey, Christopher, Kira and Sabrina. Great grandmother to ten great grandchildren and aunt to many nieces and nephews. Tekla, Tania to friends, was an active member of St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Church where she held a position of president of the Ladies Auxiliary. She loved to cook, bake, sing, dance the tango and socialize. She was fondly remembered for her blueberry pancakes and crepes. She enjoyed the outdoors especially blueberry picking. Everyone who knew her, loved her. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy. Resting at Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch Street, Sudbury. Visitation Thursday, May 13, 2021 between 4:00 – 7:00 pm with Panakhyda at 7:00 pm.

Funeral Service in the R. J. Barnard Chapel on Friday, May 14, 2021 at 10:30am.

Followed by Interment in the family plot at the Parklawn Cemetery, Sudbury. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Elgin Street Mission, Blue Door Café (Soup Kitchen) or the Canadian Mental Health Association (Sudbury Chapter) would be appreciated. Due to the COVID-19 directives, 10 people or less in our visitation room and chapel. Facemasks are mandatory.
