It is with sadness that the family of John “Jack” Joseph Carter announce that he passed away at age 84, in Port Colborne on May 17, 2022. Left to mourn are his loving wife of 62 years, Margaret “Joan” Carter (Marr), daughter Diane (Keith) Stone of Augusta, Georgia and son James Carter of Port Colborne.  Jack is the cherished brother of Stephen (Denise) Carter.  Jack will be fondly remembered by his in-laws Patricia Firby, Allan (Cheryl) Marr, Blain (Cathy) Marr, Douglas Marr and many nieces & nephews. Jack is predeceased by his father Raymond Carter, stepmother Mary, in-laws Roy and Winnifred Marr, in-laws Doreen (Louis) Rodgers and Larry Marr.

A special thank you to Jack’s Family doctor, Dr. Ellen Robb, the doctors, nurses, personal support workers and staff of the Niagara Health System for the care and compassion Jack has received at many locations over the past year.   

Jack graduated from Hamilton Teachers’ College, Laurentian University (B.A.) and Niagara University (M. Ed).  He enjoyed a successful teaching career as an elementary teacher and principal for 35 years with the Sudbury Board of Education.  Jack was a natural athlete, excelling at basketball, curling, hard ball and golf.  He also coached track and field.  Jack served on the board of the CAS in his younger days and was a founding member of the Better Beginnings, Better Future Program, an after-school club for Indigenous youth. 

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place at a future date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 179 Clarence Street, Port Colborne. If so desired, memorial donations may be made to your local Meals on Wheels, a Food Bank or Infant Food Bank or a charity of your choice.
