It is with deepest sadness that the Rintala Family announces the passing of Voitto Rintala on January 5th 2025 at St. Joseph’s Continuing Complex Care, Sudbury, Ontario. Voitto is survived by his sister Anne Green (Ron predeceased), Brother John Rintala (Christine) and his children, son Richard (Anca), daughter Catherine (Brian, predeceased), sons Ronald and Robert (partner Lana). Voitto spent his life with his beloved wife Esme, predeceased in 2021, and was a proud grandfather to Lenka (Daryl), Erik (Laura Lee), Jodi (Anthony), Lindsay (Andrew), Tamara (partner Andrew A.), Jacob and Mikayla, and great grandfather to Avery, Ella, and Evelyne. Voitto was predeceased by his parents Martta and Vester Rintala and their first child Voitto’s sister, nine-month-old Gertu. Voitto will be dearly missed by his nieces, nephews and his many friends and former colleagues.
Voitto was born November 25, 1933 in Creighton Mine, Ontario. He was the first born son to Vester and Martta Rintala. Voitto was raised in Creighton Mine and also spent time on the family farm in Wanup. Guided by his father, he developed an interest in machines and equipment that proved to be lifelong to developing and leading a successful aggregate company. Voitto grew into an intelligent and enterprising young man with a willingness to work hard and a capacity for having fun when the work was done.
Voitto met Esme, the woman who would become his wife in 1954. They had four children, whom they raised while concurrently running a successful business. Voitto loved to hunt, fish and explore the north in his airplane, in which he had many adventures. While he enjoyed charting new paths in his plane or boat, one of his favourite places to be with family and friends was his camp on Cockburn Island. He enjoyed many hunting and fishing trips, family reunions and relaxing vacations there. Voitto was an excellent cook, and he was happiest when preparing a meal for his favourite people.
Voitto had a long and adventurous life and will be missed by many. He always had a special smile and laugh for his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and a helping hand for a friend. The family would like to extend our thanks to Gail St. Louis for providing Voitto with excellent companionship and care in his most recent years. And thank you to all the people at St. Joseph’s for their compassionate care of Voitto and his family.
Voitto was an avid member of the Shrine Club and held dear the Shriner’s Hospital for Children. If you would like to make a donation to it or to a charity of your own choice in his memory, it would be much appreciated in lieu of flowers.
A celebration of his life will take place at the Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch Street, on Saturday May 3rd, 2025, at 11:30am, under the auspices of the Masonic Lodge. Friends may gather at the funeral home after 11am on Saturday. A reception will follow in the funeral home Fellowship room. Interment in the Waters Cemetery.
