It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Kurtis Creighton.
With great sadness we share the loss of Kurtis, a much-loved son, grandson, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. Kurtis was born in Sudbury on August 10, 1995, and is survived by his loving mother Victoria (n Marleau), his grandmother Ruth Marleau (predeceased Raymond Marleau 2001), his brother and best friend Nicholas, his extra-special niece Kasha, his cousins who were more like brothers, Christopher Marleau (wife Aja Marleau) and Sasha Marleau. He will also be deeply missed by his aunts and uncles, Ruth-Ann & Scott McDonald, Matt & Michelle Marleau, Olga Marleau (predeceased Michael Marleau 2003) and Terry Rumford, his father John, as well as his loyal canine companion, faithful friend and protector, Cookie.
There are no words to express the sadness and broken hearts over the loss of our adored Kurtis. Our time with him was far too brief, but we take comfort in knowing that his courage, kindness, loyalty, and strength have guided us through this journey. Surrounded by the family he loved and comforted, Kurtis passed away peacefully at home on December 10, 2024.
“Kurtis, although you have left our arms, you will be forever in our hearts.”
With earnings from his first job as a paperboy, Kurtis saved enough to buy a small above-ground pool for his family to enjoy together. While attending St. Charles College, he also worked at Bianco's Movie Supercenter, which sparked his love for video games and movies. When he was well, Kurtis embraced physical labour and proved to be a valued employee at Aqua Guard.
A highlight of Kurtis's teenage years was traveling to Africa with his mom on a "Me to We" excursion and African safari, where they helped build a library in the village of Pimbiniet. He embraced Kenyan culture so deeply that seven months later, he returned on his own to start a farming initiative with George, a local resident he had befriended. Together, they tilled the land, built an irrigation system, and planted seeds. Kurtis always stayed in touch with George, who expanded the farm and grew an abundance of crops. Kurtis also supported George by funding a year of education for his two children. This exemplifies the selfless and generous spirit that defined him.
"We have a dream to change the World", words held close by Kurtis.
Kurtis was fiercely loyal, never judged people and was always willing to help anyone that asked for or needed his support. In his honour, may we all strive to live with the same positivity, strength, and courage he embodied every day. Over the past four and a half years, Kurtis faced major health challenges with remarkable resilience, strength and dignity. He was a true warrior who never allowed illness to steal his spirit. Even in the face of his final diagnosis, he met it with courage, grace, and resolve. He now rests in peace.
"My pain is gone - I am free."
We are so grateful and want to express our heartfelt appreciation to the team of Bayshore Palliative Care nurses, Katie and Kim for their dedication and expertise, who described Kurtis as "the strongest guy you ever did wanna meet". Thank you to Drs. Carlson, Singh, and Malone, and the entire team at the Cancer Centre, nurses and support staff on 4 North, and the pharmacists and pharmacy technicians and Lasalle Clinic Pharmacy. We also extend sincere thanks to Victoria’s many friends who kept a meal train running, offering unwavering support.
The family warmly invites you to join them for visitation at Simple Wishes of the North (1106 Kingsway) on Sunday, December 15th from 2:00 – 7:00pm. Interment at 11am at the Civic Cemetery (365 Second Ave N) on Monday, December 16th, with Celebration of Life to follow at the Idylwylde Golf & Country Club (400 Walford Rd) from 12:30 – 2:30pm. “Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed, and very dear."
Love you, Mom.
Love you, too.
