On August 23, 2020, Beryl Daoust (nee McLaughlin) died peacefully in her own bed, surrounded by her family.
Much loved wife of Ron, mother of Nancy (Dave), Kelly, Tracey (Gerry), grandchildren Blaire, Kady, Hannah, Sean, Robin, and Maisie, great grandchildren Cecil and Cameron, brothers Barry (predeceased) (Ethna), and Billy, (Greta) (predeceased), in-laws Butch, (Edna), Bob, (Debbie), Fran (predeceased), (Roger), and Lorraine, (Keith). Predeceased by her loving in-laws Rose and Herman Daoust. She will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, in Ireland, Scotland, and Canada, in particular life long time friends Noreen MacKay & Diane Sampson, and cousin Mary Livingstone.
Beryl was born in Derry, Northern Ireland in 1931 to parents Maisie and Frank McLaughlin. She immigrated from Derry in her twenties, and began her Canadian adventure in Toronto with Derry girls Lilly Norris and May Campbell, until she met and married Ron. Beryl moved to Sudbury and quickly became an integral member of her large French Canadian family. She helped build the family business, Leisure World, volunteered for many years with the Sudbury Horticultural society, and thoroughly enjoyed Sudbury’s social scene with good friends Lois and Marcel Prevost (predeceased), as well as time spent at the camp on Lake Nosbonsing.
Beryl loved socializing and welcomed everyone with an open heart, always willing to “put another spud in the pot” for anyone who dropped by. Many will remember Ron and Beryl’s parties on John Street and Maple Cove camp. In her senior years Beryl kept in touch with her extended family on the computer and continued to host anyone from any part of the world who wanted to drop by for a visit.
We will remember and miss her blunt observations, her unsolicited advice, and her unparalleled potato salad. But most of all we will miss our daily communication and her unconditional support.
Our heartfelt thanks go out to the many doctors and staff in the medical community who were involved in Beryl’s care, in particular palliative nurse Faith.
A private family wake will be held to celebrate Beryl’s life.
