It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Dupuis, 81, who
died peacefully at the hospital on October 13, 2022.
John was born on November 17th, 1940 to Arthur and Alice (Giroux) Dupuis in
Sudbury, Ontario.
From the beginning, John had an adventurous and spontaneous spirit, and at the young age of 17, he quit school and left home for the fast-paced life of Toronto. Eventually he found his way back home to Sudbury, and in 1962 he was set up on a blind date with Lise Tisdelle. They fell in love quickly, and he proposed atop the Sudbury water tower overlooking the city. They were married on September 15th, 1962.
John was always a very hard worker - he went back to school and got his high school diploma at 45! He looked at every job as an opportunity to learn and grow. He told stories of delivering glass milk bottles door-to-door for Copper Cliff Dairy; he was a door-to-door salesman for Rawleigh; he built houses for Viceroy Homes; he worked for Chrysler in Windsor; he was a long-time employee of Falconbridge, working underground; he operated his own contracting business after he retired and completed many projects at Collège Boréal when it was being built. He also volunteered for many years at the St Vincent de Paul Society Thrift Store in Val Caron.
John loved the outdoors, especially fishing and camping! His children hold
many special memories of long, lazy days fishing for pickerel on the boat,
followed by late-night fish fries. He loved to travel and would often reminisce
about the winters he spent in Arizona. In his earlier days, it wasn’t unheard of for him to wake up in the middle of the night with the impulse to take a trip somewhere - packing suitcases, a cooler, and sleeping kids into the car.
John was a very creative man and enjoyed all kinds of hobbies related to the arts! He was a talented woodworker and crafted stunning wooden toys with moving parts. He also enjoyed the intricate art of intarsia and dabbled in photography. Once retired, he developed a passion for creating jewelry -
especially working with gemstones. He loved ballroom dancing, singing old
country songs, and even attempted to learn to play the violin and guitar!
Loving father to his four daughters: Ginette (a.k.a. Genie) Gilroy, Corinne Dupuis,
Kathleen Dupuis, and Lynn Hansen. Grandfather to Sean, Bradley, and Jason
Gilroy, Nicholas, Kimberly, and Lisa Barton, David, and Daniel Rochon, and
Larina, Georgiana, Emmaline, and Finley Hansen. Great-grandfather to Cali Rey
Barton and Emma Gilroy. Dear brother of Susan Godin.
John was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lise Dupuis (nee Tisdelle) and his
siblings Lilianne Lowe, Ronald Dupuis, and Maurice Dupuis.
He was a wonderful teacher of life lessons, but of all the lessons he taught us, it is this one that resonates most deeply: Do all the things you want to do in life and have no regrets!
A private gathering will take place to celebrate his life.
