WALSH, Patrick Joseph

1945-2021

Lovingly known as Paddy or PJ.

Passed away peacefully at Health Sciences North on March 31, 2021. Paddy was 75 years old. Beloved husband to Patricia, proud father to his three daughters Margaret (Conrad), Irene (Matt), & Kathleen (Scott), and cherished grandpa to Eleanor, Ronan, Graeme & Callum.

Paddy was born in County Tipperary, Ireland to Margaret and James Walsh, brother of Connie(d), Kathleen(d), & Maureen. He was a proud uncle to all of his nieces and nephews. 

He came to Canada in 1967 and built a career for himself at INCO, starting as a miner and retiring as a hoist man after 42 years.

Paddy was a staple in the Sudbury fitness community. As an avid runner, paddler, and cyclist, he competed in Beaton Classics, participated in Dragon Boat races, and volunteered his time to mark race courses over the years. Paddy was a beloved member of the community and developed life-long friendships. 

He built a happy life for himself in Canada but always remained close to his Irish roots. Joining a close-knit community of Irish immigrants in Sudbury, Paddy was a proud member of the band, Paddy’s Patriots. Their jovial Irish music and his skill on the squeeze box was loved by all. Through countless family trips, Irish dance lessons, and a steady diet of the Fureys, Paddy instilled that love for Ireland in his family.

It's a long way to Tipperary and Paddy made a positive impact on every person he met along the way. 

A celebration of life will be planned at a later date, pending COVID-19-related restrictions.
