Although there was little hope recently to save you in this lifetime, from the disease that you fought so hard these past 5 years to overcome, and never stopped hoping you could. Somehow you found renewed strength to battle your addictions by celebrating your new-found life with excitement and proudness but in the end, it was too late, and your body was tired of fighting.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gerard “Gerry” Landry at the age of 71. A man full of new dreams and plans for a future he only wished could have begun a little sooner. Gerry found renewed love for his life and peace with his past over the last 5 years. We are grateful that his next journey will bring him more guidance, love for himself and others, happiness and continue the path of sobriety he fought so hard this last lifetime.
Your greatest gift to the world will always be your children: Trina (Jason Bruyere), Edward “Eddy” (Thanh Dang), and Aline (Ben). He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren Carissa Bruyere (Ricky Richer), Courtney Bruyere (Kurtis Clouthier), Valerie Dang-Huynh (Kenny Huynh), Hilarie Dang-Landry, and Isabelle (Izzy). Proud Great-Grandfather (Papere) to Meadow Ivy.
You are now back in the loving and protective arms of your parents; Bertha (Brazeau) and Edward Landry and your big brother Robert, (all predeceased). Cherished brother of Louise, Aline Foster (Bill), Cecile Gauthier, John (Maureen), Danny, Monique Amyotte (Billy - predeceased), Mark (Pat) and sister-in-law Joanne Landry (Bob Becket). Sadly missed by his only living Aunt Irene Brazeau from New Liskeard and many cousins from the Landry and Brazeau families.
Also sadly missed by his long-time friend Dave Reid who was a great help during the best and worst of times but always made an effort to be there for Gerry. He appreciated your loyalty and years of friendship and spoke very highly of you. To his amazing neighbour Alain Landry who was a great friend and helped Gerry these past couple of years after his motor vehicle accident by doing chores for him and always being there to help when his mobility became a challenge. We are beyond appreciative of your help and your kindness. Missed and fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews who some had very late phone calls from Uncle Gerry but never complained. He loved you all and he spoke kind of each of you. He had a very special bond with his 3 nephews – the Amyotte boys and was proud of his relationship with them and the lessons he taught them to become the best businessmen as “The Pool Boys” in Markham.
Gerry began his millwright career in Sudbury working throughout Canada. He was a huge supporter of his Local Union 1425 and spoke very highly of Linda, the office administrator. He worked hard and was committed to being the best he could be at any job. He loved talking about the many jobs he worked as a Millwright and always had an ability to share his knowledge in the field. Gerry was happiest when he was able to give his last dollar from his wallet to anyone who needed it more. Nobody went without when he was near.
The family expresses their appreciation to the many doctors, nurses, health care team that Gerry had over the past years. Your dedication to his health and his hopes for a longer healthier life did help him through some very difficult times. Dr. Cano, Dr. Emack, Dr. Shum, Dr. Heather Boudreau, Dr. Mikael Levesque and all your team members. A special acknowledgement to Bridget from the Family Physician office who was a tremendous help to Trina to arrange all his appointments. The staff at Absolute Health and Rehab Sudbury who helped Gerry during some of the most difficult days in the past couple of years. To Jade and Tiffany from Canadian Shield, his private nurses in recent months. To all the staff at HSN in the past few years especially during his last 6 weeks please know that our family is so grateful for your care and dedication to him during this difficult time.
Your wings are now full, and your saviour is ready to accept you. Live your next journey with all the lessons learnt and love will always be nearby. Until we meet again “Sparky”. To those who read this obituary and think you are alone and can’t break free from your addictions please don’t give up on yourself or the people who love you. Forgive yourself. You are all gifted with inner strength to become healthier and addiction free, just take it one day at a time.

Please support this educational account to help a young person have a great start to their educational dream. Gerry opted for a Celebration of Life that will be held at his favourite Sports Bar, Overtime on Notre Dame in Sudbury, on Friday, September 23, 2022, where he was known as Uncle Gerry. The family invite extended family, friends, and neighbours, to join them between 3:00 pm and 8:00 pm. This is a casual affair with food, a little music, and lots of laughs and love where family and friends can come and share stories of Gerry.
Gerry’s burial will take place, Saturday September 24th at noon, at the Civic Memorial Cemetery on Second Avenue.
