GILLIS, Miriam (nee Kreko) - In Loving Memory of Miriam (nee Kreko) Gillis, 84 years who passed away Tuesday, January 5th, 2010 at the Pioneer Manor, Sudbury. Beloved wife of Sammy Gillis predeceased 1988. Loving father of Marilyn Gillis, Bob Gillis (wife Catherine) and Terry Rutkowski (husband Henry). Cherished Granny of Stephen (wife Nancy), Scott, Jason, Janet (husband Craig Fitzgerald), Kelly (husband Blake Didone), Andrew and great grandchildren Connor, Grace and Nicholas. Dear sister of Vic Kreko and predeceased by Eria, Aili, Uno and Taisto. Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Garson, she married Sammy Gillis in 1947 in Sudbury. She had worked at Cochrane & Dunlop for many years. A woman of faith, she attended St. Paul's United Church (Garson). She had been a founding member having helped construct the Church. She actively participated in the activities and ministries of the Church including Church Secretary, Sunday School Teacher and UCW President. An artistic person she enjoyed crafts, creating beautiful needle point works. Miriam enjoyed bowling and playing Bridge and cards. A well liked and respected Garson resident, she participated in many local groups and worthy causes. The focus of her life was her loving family especially her precious grandchildren. Miriam can echo the words of St. Paul: I fought the good fight. I finished my course. I kept the faith. Resting at the JACKSON & BARNARD FUNERAL HOME, 233 Larch St., Sudbury. Funeral Service in the R. J. Barnard Chapel Saturday, January 9th, 2010 at 11 a.m. Interment in the family plot at the Civic Cemetery.
