Maija Liisa Hautamaki (Laitinen)
October 24, 1927 – February 25, 2021

It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Maija Liisa Hautamaki (93 yrs) at Finlandia Nursing Home. Beloved wife of 71 years to Toivo (Jussi) Hautamaki, loving mother of Pirjo (Graham Hodder) and cherished grandmother of Tina (Mike Hobbs), Darren (Ellena) and Brian (Melissa), great-grandmother of Cassandra, Lucas, Cameron, Drew, Ethan and Jack. She will be sadly missed by dear brother Jaakko Laitinen (Pirjo) of Finland and many family members and friends in Canada and Finland. She was the dear daughter of Lauri and Anni Laitinen (predeceased) and dear sister of six siblings (predeceased). Maija, Jussi and Pirjo came to Canada in 1951 to start a new life and Maija easily made many friends with her caring, compassionate and joyful nature. She always had a smile and retained her wonderful sense of humour even through her illness.
She was actively involved in church life at St. Timothy’s (New Hope Lutheran) and was chair of the Waters Ladies Aid Group for 25 years. Maija loved to cook and bake and thoroughly enjoyed preparing fine meals for her so cherished family and for large gatherings through her volunteer work. She enjoyed spending summers in her gardens tending to her flowers. After suffering with Alzheimer for 13 years, she spent her last days at Finlandia Nursing Home. We would like to sincerely thank Dr.  Presenza and the wonderful nurses and staff at Finlandia for their excellent support and compassionate care. Maija was much loved and will be greatly missed.
As per Maija’s wishes there will be a private family funeral. Interment will be at the Waters Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Finlandia SISU Foundation. For donations or messages of condolence, www.lougheed.org
Arrangements are entrusted to the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home.
