August 1939-October 2020

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Baba & friend Stella Hrechka on October 16, 2020 at 12:15 a.m., peacefully surrounded by her son Randy and his family.  Stella was Pre-Deceased by her Parents Nicolas & Barbara Manaichuk, and her beloved and true soulmate Hellar Hrechka.  She is survived and deeply missed by her 4 children and their families, Randy (Christine), Karen, Sharon (Austin), Lisa (Bruce).  She was cherished by her grandchildren who she made laugh and loved them so much, Danielle, Stephanie, Bryan, Darryl, Teniqua, Larissa, Kyle, Brianne, Justin, Kaeden, Tayler & Ryder, and her 4 amazing great grandchildren Fynnley, Maisie, Logan and Raya.  And will be deeply missed by her best friend and sister Anne and her brother Alexander (Allan).  Stella was raised in Garland Manitoba with her parents, Nicholas and Barbara, her two brothers and her sister, Stella unfortunately lost her mother at a very young age of 15.  Shortly after, Stella attended a dance in Pine River Manitoba where she would meet Hellar, the love of her life for the next 60 years, finding they both had the same sense of humour and love for friends and family.  They married in 1955 and had 4 wonderful children, raising them while farming in Pine River.   Stella was always the life of the ball, never afraid to try new things or take new adventures and could always make everyone smile or laugh.   In 1971 Stella and Hellar moved to Lynn Lake Manitoba with their children, where Stella started babysitting for family friends.  She then started working at the family fish plant where she would bring her youngest to work and later moved into a position with "The Bay" store in Lynn Lake, where she would retire.  She was an amazing person, she lived everyday to its fullest, and never let the small stuff get to her.  She was firm but always had a hug or and I love you ready no matter what.  With the most infectious laugh, you always knew where she was in the store and could find her easily.  She welcomed everyone into their home no matter who you were and made so many good friends that kept in touch over the years.  Although she and Hellar did not travel much, they made a point to visit their children on a regular basis in all provinces.  Mom loved to cook, usually enough to feed the family, the neighbours, and the entire town, but she always said you never know who will drop by.  Never shy about trying new dishes, one day she phoned her youngest and told her she was making Quick, as quickly as she said it and after spelling it quickly realized it was pronounced 'quiche' and she giggled about it for days .  She spent countless hours making blankets for everyone, or growing plants and flowers. She always had a welcome hand to anyone who needed it.   Stella and Hellar loved their garden, ski-doing, fishing, spending quiet time at the lake and getting into mischief by playing practical jokes on unsuspecting cabin friends.  She loved her flowers and helping Hellar light up the house for Christmas, so much that a plane could probably land in their yard it was so bright, but from that so much joy was had watching people come by just to see the "Hrechka" house.  Stella was known as Baba Stella to so many kids around the town, they loved her as much as her own family, because there was always a smile and a hug waiting for you.  Her favourite line was after we said I love you, she would always say to us " I love you more " and hang up the phone.  There will not be a service but her ashes will be spread where her Husbands ashes were spread at a later date, and we ask that in lieu of flowers you donate to : St. Josephs Villa http://www.sjsudbury.com/index.php/st-josephs-foundation/ways-to-donate/
We would also like to Thank the Staff and Administration at St. Joseph’s Villa for the wonderful care they took of our Mother. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
