It is with heavy hearts the family announces his passing on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at Health Sciences North. Beloved husband of Kay (Kathleen, nee Moyle) predeceased 2013. Loving father of Gregory (Catherine, nee Dennis), Lynn, and Laurie (David Stefanyshyn). Cherished grandfather of Benoit, Margaret, Kelsey and Ashley, and great-grandfather to twins due in July.
Gilles’ light shone brightest in the dark corners of human suffering, where he would courageously be a compassionate presence and strength to others in their physical, emotional, or spiritual pain wherever they were.  He served his community as a firefighter until his retirement from the City of Greater Sudbury Fire Department. He served his faith community for decades as an usher at Christ the King Church, and he served his neighbourhoods in many ways, including establishing and maintaining a community rink at Princess Anne school yard, and responding to any call for a helping hand.
Gilles was a very creative person, often entertaining large family gatherings with his fiddle and, of course, his accordion tunes. Later, he enjoyed drawing and colouring. His daily Word Search activities until the very end were an expression of his love of vocabulary and language.
His unwavering religious faith was a foundation throughout his life. His belief that he would be reunited with his beloved Kay and family who have gone before him gave him and his family resilience during the challenging health issues he faced with dignity and acceptance during the last few years.
A special thank-you to his wonderful caregivers and staff at Extendicare Falconbridge. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to War Amps Canada.
