In Loving Memory of Elle Matilda Korpela (nee Rintaluoma). Elle’s husband of 37 years, Helge “Alex” Korpela, predeceased her in 1985. Her parents, Sameli Äystö Rintaluoma and Iida Matilda Rintaluoma (nee Soinila) and nine siblings in Finland, have all predeceased her. Her children, Eero “Ed” Korpela (Noella), and Elli Aelick (Ron) along with grandchildren, Louise Tanaka (Keith), and Robert Korpela (Jamie), David Aelick (Kristy), Mary-Ellen Aelick and Peter Aelick (Brett) will build on her legacy. Great Grandchildren Jaden, Bailee and Kieran Tanaka; Gabrielle and Erika Korpela; Ellison, Valdrin, Donik and Emiriana Peraj, all held a very special place in their Iso Mummo’s heart.

Elle was a hard working, social, determined, fun loving wife, mother, and friend. She loved having her children/families visit, socializing with her many friends, and helping others. She was kind hearted and delighted in being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her delicious ‘Pulla’ (Finnish coffee bread) and homemade rye bread were treats that all the family coveted. Elle travelled extensively...with many trips to Finland to visit her family, numerous winters in Florida, along with Israel, Palestine, across Canada, (in both E/W directions), Australia, cruised the Mediterranean, and saw the pyramids in Egypt. Her life was enriched by her dedication to St. Matthews Finnish Lutheran Church and the many church functions she was involved in. Moving to Finlandia Village, she became an active member of the Finnish War Veterans group and the Women’s Auxiliary group.

Life wasn’t always easy, but Elle's positivity, perseverance and ‘sisu’, never failed or if it needed help she would declare "nothing that a good, long walk won't cure!". For her 100th birthday, Elle planned to party with the family while wearing her rubber boots and everyone else needed to dress up in some costume to invoke laughter and fun...that was her spirit and that is how we will continue to remember her. The family plans to hold a Celebration of Life 100th birthday party in the Fall.
