It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elaine Laakso, who fought so bravely in her prolonged battle with cancer, on October the 11th of this year 2021. She will be dearly missed by her family, her loving husband Allan Laakso of 45 years and her three children, Eric Laakso (Samantha), Adam Laakso, and Emily Maurice (Kevin). Elaine was a wonderful grandmother to her grandchildren and endeavored to be a part of each one of their lives. Their names are Nolan, Sloan, Kieren, Cohin, Roman, Noah, Elsi and Fox, (with another on the way). The daughter of Lois and Roger Simard, beloved sister to Janet Halladay (Scot), Dan Simard (Vicky), Francois Simard, Gerald Simard (Sandra), Valerie Vojnovic (Djuro) and Rene Simard (Louisianne). Elaine extended her love well beyond her large family and reached the hearts of many.
She is remembered by all of those who knew her as an exemplary person with a kind smile and a delightful laugh, which she maintained throughout her hardship. She championed causes for the humane treatment of animals, including "Rescue 100", and "Pet Save" and loved fostering animals in need. Elaine's effect on this world has been immeasurable, as is the loss we all feel in her passing. "Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened".
Memorial visitation at the Lougheed Funeral Home, 252 Regent Street at Hazel Street, Sudbury, on Sunday, October 24th, 2021 from 2-4pm, with a reception to follow at the fellowship room.
