In Loving Memory – Mary Frances Land (née Quigley) – 1931-2022 – Passed away peacefully January 14, 2022, at Pioneer Manor, Sudbury ON following a lengthy illness.
Dear daughter of Edward and Sarah Quigley (née Fowler). Loving sister to 17 siblings. Beloved wife of Frederick Christopher (predeceased 1993). Devoted mother of William of Orillia, John (late Katherine, Dawn Chew), and Michael (Lise Gammon), of Sudbury, Steven (Laurie-Ann Reddick) of Elliot Lake, and Derek (Anne) of Dowling. Cherished grandmother of Maxwell, Cassandra, Jenna, Dillan, Ellissa, Mitchell, Kyle, Rhiannon, and Rachel. Loved by 11 great-grandchildren.
Mary was born in Bell Island NF, and moved to Sudbury ON in 1959. She and Fred met, married, and moved to Massey that year. They lived in Elliot Lake from 1960-1965, Spanish in 1966, and returned to Elliot Lake in 1967. Mary moved to Sudbury in 2008.
Mary devoted much of her life to caring for others including countless children. She nurtured them in her role as a mother, aunt, caregiver, or babysitter. She used her natural gifts to ensure that those in her trust were well and safe. From 1977-1989, Mary worked as a lunchroom supervisor at Central Avenue Public School.
Her favourite pastimes included dancing, music, reading and bowling. She and Fred enjoyed camping, fishing, and outdoor life. Mary cherished family gatherings and was happiest when her sons and their families were together. Mary’s grand-and great grandchildren were a special joy. The family thanks the staff at Pioneer Manor for the excellent care they provided to Mary for many years.
Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, no funeral service will be held. A memorial service is planned for a later date.
