In Loving Memory

of

Alexander “Sandy” Bruce MacLennan

76 years

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Alexander “Sandy” Bruce MacLennan on Friday, September 23, 2022 at Health Sciences North at the age of 76. Sandy was surrounded by the love and support of his family as he journeyed on to reconnect with the love of his life and best friend of 44 years Barbara (Blum). He was a loving and wonderful father to his two sons Kerry (Kim) and Scott (Deanna), as well as a special Grandpa Mac to his grandchildren Bailey and Carter. Sandy was predeceased by his parents Duncan and Myrtle, his sisters Phyllis MacSwain (Chester), Ruth Knezacek (John), and brother Boyd (Laurie). He leaves behind his brother Roy (Gail). He will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews as well as the many friends whose lives he touched.

Sandy, affectionately called “Big Chummy” by his boys and “the Sandman” by many others, always went out of his way to take care of the people that he loved. He shared a love of sports with his boys, especially cheering them on while they played and coached hockey, as well as being a constant fan at their ball games. He loved his Toronto Blue Jays and enjoyed watching all hockey games, but especially the Detroit Red Wings. Grandpa Mac cherished his grandchildren and was a constant supporter of everything that Bailey and Carter participated in, watching Bailey’s dance recitals online, and cheering on Carter at his hockey and basketball games. Sandy was an electrician at Vale for over 40 years and continued to help friends and family wherever he could after he retired. He loved his PEI roots; the family farmhouse and we know that he’s enjoying a fabulous lobster meal right now with Barb. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

A special thank you to all the nursing staff and PSW’s on the 5th Floor South at HSN who took wonderful care of Sandy in his last few weeks. A special shout out to his nurses Rebecca and Kelsey for the Blue Jays Fan gear, as well as to Sarah who helped us through a very difficult evening. Sandy was also grateful to his second family at St. Gabriel’s Villa. During his time there he was a proud advocate for the people, serving on the Residents Council. He was always willing to share a sweet treat with the staff when they stopped by for a visit. He made many friends while living there, a direct result of the kindness and gratitude he showed people daily. Thank you all for taking care of him for us.

At Sandy’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 19th, 2022 at Alley Katz Bistro and Bar, 145 Regional Rd. 24, Lively where friends may gather from 1-6pm. Cremation at the Park Lawn Crematorium. Donations to the MS Society or St. Joseph’s Foundation would be appreciated. (Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Homes)
