It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Calder Lauchlin MacLeod, 91 years old, on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at Health Sciences North in Sudbury, ON.

He was born and raised on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, by his parents Catherine (née Stowe) and Alexander MacLeod (both predeceased). Calder moved to Sudbury in the early 1950’s where he met and married his beloved wife Ruth (née Kari). Ruth and Calder celebrated 67 years of marriage before her passing in January 2021.

Sadly missed by his children Stanley (Mary-Lynn), Myles (Marlene), Lorna (Doug Pitt), Ida (Dan Chevrette), John (Nancy), Wanda (Bill Carriere), Alex (Laura-Lee), stepson David, 14 grandchildren, and 20 great- grandchildren. Calder will also be missed by his brother C.L. (Katherine), sister Doris MacKinnon, sister-in-law Viola Fahey, and many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by sisters Florence, Lucy, Elsie, Freda, Evelyn and brothers Lorne, Ralph, Winston, and Allister.

Calder always held his home of Cape Breton Island close to his heart. He was happiest when spending time with family, fishing, taking care of his farm, playing cards, and watching the Game Show Network.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Bowen and all who helped support and care for Calder over the past several years. A celebration of life in honor of Calder will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made directly to the Northern Cancer Foundation.
