In loving memory of Velma Alice Mannila (nee Etula), who passed away at 81 years old on August 4, 2021 in Stratford, Ontario surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her husband, Ahti Mannila (1980). Loving mother of Shirley Bonn (Ken) of Stratford, Lennart Mannila (Lina) of Sudbury, and Adele McLeod (Alex) of Brockville. Her grandchildren were important to her. Mummu/Mummi as she was known to Sarah Bonn (Jared), Heather Bonn (Miles), Eric Bonn (Jess), Adam Mannila, Rebecca Mannila, Amanda McLeod (James), Connor McLeod, Kyle McLeod and Colin McLeod. She was predeceased by her parents Antti and Aili Etula and sister Julie Viitala. She will be missed by her sister-in-law Anneli Mannila. Sadly missed by family and friends in Canada and Finland.
Velma was born in Whitefish, Ontario and worked at the family farm until she meet Ahti, who she married in August 1961. In her youth, she belonged to the Whitefish Speed Athletic Club and won multiple medals in Track and Field at meets in Sudbury and Toronto. When Ahti died in 1980, she became the primary breadwinner for her children. In her spare time she loved to knit, read and garden. She instilled the Finnish Sisu into her children and grandchildren.
Velma was buried at the Whitefish Cemetery with her children and sister-in-law in attendance. Arrangements entrusted to Lougheed Funeral Home.
