It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of the patriarch of our small family. Darryl Mathe, 77 years, who passed away peacefully Friday, September 24th, 2021, at Health Sciences North surrounded by his family. Darryl was the loving husband of Laurie (O’Connor) Mathe, and proud father of Erin (Brian Morley), and Meghan (Berk Keaney). Darryl was an actively involved grandfather and cherished the time he spent with his granddaughters Alexandria and Taryn Morley. He had a remarkable attachment to his grand dogs Bella and Rocket and loved taking them on family walks. Dear brother-in-law of Dick (Monita) O’Connor, John O’Connor & Paula (Tony) Heard and uncle of Sean, Rob,Taylor and Whitney. Darryl cherished his close relationship with his aunt Helen Cassidy. He was predeceased by his parents, Cecile (Martel)1978 and Charles Herbert Mathe, 2007.

He was a Copper Cliff “boy” through and through, proud of his roots and community. A natural born athlete, Darryl enjoyed playing hockey in high school and college, biking, cross country and downhill skiing plus golfing. His favourite physical activity was running with his unique buddies in The Sudbury Masters Running Club and boy did they run. Following graduation from Lake Superior State University, Darryl started his career at Inco in purchasing. Later he moved to the City of Sudbury where he eventually led the Purchasing Department.

His career was fulfilling and rewarding, however it was during his retirement years that he cherished time with Laurie and his family whether it was wintering in Arizona, travelling or simply enjoying the “good” life in his backyard on the lake.  Darryl will be deeply missed by his family and many friends in Canada and the USA. He will be remembered for his quiet dignity and gentle spirit.

A very special thank you to Dr. Ravi Singh, Nurse Erin, and Dr. Andrew Pearce at the Cancer Center for their amazing compassion, care and guidance.
