It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother, Rita Maxwell (nee Laforest), peacefully at Health Sciences North on Thursday, November 7th at the age of 92.
She is survived by her daughters Wendy, Joanne (Kitchener) and Paulette (Ottawa); granddaughters Stephanie and Lauren (Kyle); her companion Tom Rannelli and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband of over 60 years Warren “Max”; her parents Arthur and Lucille Laforest (nee Lalancette) and siblings Joseph “Pete”, Raymond, Rolland, Theresa Bryant, and Noella Duncan.
Rita will be remembered for her infectious laugh, humour, and sense of style.
She had a smile that would light up a room. She was not just a special Mom, Grandma, Aunt, and friend, but a matriarch and confidante whose life touched many.
Rita was an avid reader, gardener, amazing cook and baker. Music and dancing were a big part of her life. Mom and Dad’s jiving could draw a crowd. She loved going out for coffee with her friends, especially Lise and nieces Christine and Lynn.
Mom and Dad loved spending time at their trailer on D’Aoust Lake and looked forward to their winter getaways in Cuba. More recently, Rita enjoyed going to Tom’s camp at Portage Lake. As kids, we spent many summer days with Memere and Pepere on Lake Nipissing. Rita cherished her many travel adventures with her family over the years, especially her trip of a lifetime with Wendy to Europe.
She was in good health and full of life right up until her passing.
A special thank you to the paramedics and staff in the emergency department at Health Sciences North for their compassionate care.
A Memorial Mass will be held at Paroisse Saint-Dominique on Monday, November 18th at 11am, with a reception to follow.
Donations can be made to the Greater Sudbury Public Library, Paroisse Saint-Dominique or the charity of your choice.
Arrangements entrusted to Sudbury Park Lawn Cremation Services.
