MIHALCIN, Helen - The family announces the passing of Helen Mihalcin, August 29th, 2009 at St. Joseph's Hospital at the age of 89. Helen was born March 12th, 1920 in Caklov, Czechoslovakia and emigrated to Canada on September 30th, 1927. She was predeceased by her parents Julia and Paul Sopuch. Helen married Joseph Mihalcin (predeceased November 18th, 1980) on February 28th, 1938 in Montreal, Quebec and they settled in Sudbury. She was a homemaker for many years and then worked part time for the T. Eaton company for 20 years. Helen was well known for her baking of almond crescents and knitting. She also enjoyed her summers at camp on Lake Penache and her activities with many friends. Loving mother of Eleanor Mihalcin of Thornhill, Ontario, Irene Lucas (Brian) of Sherwood Park, Alberta and Mary Pattui (predeceased November 24th, 1985). Cherished grandmother of four grandchildren: David Pattui (friend Charlotte), Catharine Graham (David), twins Sheilah Lorenz and Kristine Hogan (Michael); and nine great grandchildren: Steven, Carolyne and Monica Graham and Amelia Pattui of Sudbury; Erika and Parker Lorenz; Brénainn, Jessica and Ashlee Hogan of Sherwood Park, Alberta. Sister of John Sopuch (Mary), Paul Sopuch (Ann) and Michael Sopuch (predeceased February 8th, 1966). Also three nieces: Pat Sopuch, Carol Larocque and Karen Makedon; and two nephews Daniel and David Sopuch. Resting at the LOUGHEED FUNERAL HOME, 252 Regent St. at Hazel St. Funeral Service in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 189 Regent St., Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009 at 10am. Interment at the Parklawn Cemetery. Donations to SRHF Cardiac Unit or Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund would be appreciated. (Friends may call 2-4 & 7-9 pm Tuesday).
