Morrison, Bazil Norman Campbell
Bazil Norman Campbell Morrison was always a gentleman. Kind, thoughtful, contemplative, well read, tranquil… he was gentle in spirit, gentle to women and children, indeed to all people, gentle to animals and to the Earth.
Born July 6, 1934, he was 88 when he died Tuesday, March 7, 2023. Survived by his beloved wife Sandra Morrison (nee Geick), sons Jeff Morrison and Craig Morrison (Cathy), grandchildren Brock Morrison, Logan Morrison (Tori), Eric Morrison (Kristina) and Jesse Morrison and step-grandchildren Craig Green (Emma and first great grandchild Thomson) and Sarah Green (Chris). Baz will also be greatly missed by Sandra’s children Michael Degagne (Janine), Kimberly Tkachuk (Chris) and her children Olivia and Alyssa Baker. Predeceased by first wife Janet Morrison (nee Eadie).
Baz lived a long and happy life free from illness. Only in his last three weeks was he feeling ill, and he claimed to be pain free. If only we could all be so lucky.
Raised near, then in Brockville ON, Baz met Janet in high school. The family of Baz, Jan and their two boys also started in Brockville, then moved to Toronto and then to a hobby farm near Wahnapitae in 1970 when Baz worked as a teacher at Cambrian College. Retiring early, he had over 30 years of pensioned life which he used to enjoy the pursuit of his hobbies. Baz was a long time Toastmaster and loved by all who knew him there. Many people said he was their mentor at that speaking organization. He attained the very highest degree of accomplishment there, becoming Distinguished Toastmaster.
In December 2015, after Jan’s death, Baz fell in love at first sight with Sandra. They married in the summer of 2017 and always seemed in perfect harmony. Recently we learned he was referred to as the “kiss monster”.
Baz loved knowledge and reading. When he and Sandra downsized to move into Finlandia, we took 27 boxes of books to the Whitefish Falls First Nations Library. His other main hobby was writing. Always a man of choice words, both in speech and on paper, he was well known for his love of language and accurate wording. There were always several books in various stages of polishing in preparation for the perfect end result.
In his last few days of life, lucidity was fleeting. When one grandson asked how he was feeling, Baz turned his head to clearly reply “completely at peace.”
Love surrounded Baz and emanated from him throughout life. His existence was and is a profound success.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at the Northern Water Sports Centre (206 Ramsey Lake Rd., Sudbury, ON) on Friday May 5, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. We welcome anyone who knew Baz. Bring your stories. Light refreshments will be served.
