MORRISON, Winston

July 23, 2021 79 years old

Morrison PIC (1)
Winston Kirk Morrison of Blind River passed away at North Shore Health Services on Friday July 23rd, 2021, at the age of 79.
Kirk was born in Midland, Ontario to the late Jack and Gladys (nee Lamb) Morrison, where he made a (not so honest) attempt to go to school. Always an adventurous spirit, his efforts at joining the Royal Canadian Navy (at age15), led to some time in New York and Florida. He would eventually become an Engineer on the cargo ships sailing the Great Lakes and beyond. Here, Kirk met Debra Lee McLennan (a summer student as a ship’s porter) and soon after they were married in Midland. Shortly after their daughter Kirstin was born, the family moved to Elliot Lake where Kirk went to work in the mines for many years. When the mines began to close, he would eventually return to his passion of working on the boats. Kirk had a love for the outdoors, which was one of the main reasons for his remaining in Blind River upon his retirement. Kirk and Debra also had a love of dogs, raising many labs and hounds, including several rescue dogs. Kirk’s later years were spent with his rescue Red Lab companion Bruce who passed away last year.
He is dearly missed by his daughter Kirstin Morrison (Rob), his sister Anna Scott (Randy), and his many cousins on the Morrison and Lamb side. Kirk was predeceased by his wife Debra, sister Eden Beardsall (Jim). His many friends near and far remember him fondly, with a story to share.
Cremation has taken place and Kirk’s life will be celebrated at “The Farm” in Wyebridge on August 15th. Arrangements entrusted to Menard Funeral Home. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Charity of your choice are welcome if desired.
