In Loving Memory of Balwant Rai Moudgil

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Balwant Rai Moudgil on February 3rd, 2025. Born in Ludhiana, India, on September 19th, 1940. Balwant made Sudbury his home for 53 years with his loving wife Beena of 51 years.  He retired after 30 years service at Falconbridge and managed to own and operate close to 100 apartment units at the same time.

Balwant was the cherished son of the late Pandit Harbhagwan and Shrimati Lajwanti Moudgil, who instilled in him a deep sense of devotion to family. He was the beloved brother of 9 siblings and a devoted uncle to 29 nieces and nephews, as well as their numerous children.

He was the proud and loving father of Bineet, his wife Melissa, and proud grandfather to Mila and Bodin Rai. He was also the devoted father of Priya, wife of Sean, and proud grandfather to Tresean, Ashton, Chase, Cruz, and Chance.

A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Balwant will be remembered for his unwavering love for family and his joyful spirit around children. He had an infectious love for dancing, music, and outdoor barbecues, which brought people together. Balwant’s passion for cooking and feeding others was a testament to his generous nature. He had a remarkable gift for making people smile, lifting their spirits with his humor and warmth.

He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, integrity, and kindness that will continue to inspire those who knew him. With his warm smile and generous spirit, Balwant touched the lives of all who crossed his path.

His memory will forever be a source of love, inspiration, and comfort to his family and friends. May his soul rest in peace, embraced by the music and dance he so dearly loved.

Funeral (Antim Sanskar) to be held at Sudbury Park Lawn Crematorium on February 5th at 11am (private event for family only) and Puja to follow at Hindu Prathana Samaj at 6pm (for friends and family).
