It is with heavy hearts we announce that passing of our cherished father Leonard Niemela, 10 days before his 91st birthday. He was born on December 12, 1932, in Sudbury to Helmi and Arvo Niemela (predeceased). He was happily married for 61 years to Anita (predeceased). Leonard is survived by his two children Karen Dost, (partner Rob Moreau) and Kevin (wife Jill). He loved spending time with his grandchildren, Sarah Dost (Justin Charbonneu), Kristine Dost (Tom Amyotte), Dr. Kayley Niemela (Terry Fear) and Amy Niemela (Jamie MacMurray).
Leonard was blessed to have two great grandchildren Atlas and Caspien.
Leonard came from a large family. Dear brother of Allen (predeceased), Helen (Ovia Ranta) (predeceased), Milley (Berney Marois predeceased), Ailleen (Paul Davis), Linda Black and Sharon(Bruce Grenon). Dear brother-in law of Jorma Tervo (predeceased) (Connie) and Brita Juusula. Leonard spent many weekends with family including his many nieces and nephews. He retired from INCO in 1990 after 40 years working underground, finishing his career at Levack Mine on the tram. He loved spending time at Windy Lake at the camp on the island, fishing, having a sauna, and the occasional napsu. He will be sadly missed by his Family.
