NITCHIE, Edward - In Loving Memory of Edward Nitchie, January 18th, 1923- September 19th, 2011. Beloved husband of Mary (Zemlack) Nitchie predeceased 1998. Loving father of Wayne of Dowling. Dear son of Steve and Pearl Nitchie of Pleasant Home, Teulon, Manitoba both predeceased. Dear brother of Christine Grant of York, South Carolina, predeceased by Victor, William Bill, Frank and Gordon. Edward was a front line Member of the Armoured Division, Fort Garry Horse (Manitoba), serving as a Reconnaissance Tank radio operator and crew commander. He was active with the D-Day Landings, wounded on August 12th, 1944, returning to duty October 15th, 1944, he saw V.E. Day and volunteered for the Pacific Theatre of Operations. Edward was employed with Falconbridge Nickel Mine, working at 5 shaft and proudly serving with Mine Mill Local 5981/CAW as Compensation Health and Welfare Officer, retiring in 1982. He was a passionate member of the labour movement and dedicated his time for the War Pensioners of Canada. He was a kind and gentle person who will be well remembered. War Pensioners of Canada.
