It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and friend Mary Parsley, 96 years on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at Extendicare York, Sudbury. Mary was the beloved wife of 55 years to Christopher Parsley (predeceased 2000). Born and raised in Bell Island, NL, Mary grew up within a few houses of Christopher’s family and their paths crossed while working together at the local movie theater. Dad had someone cover for him one night at the theatre as he chose instead to walk Mary home. This was the beginning of how 55 years of their marriage began. She was the much loved mother to Suzanne and John (April). Her greatest joys in life were her three grandchildren Ian, Kailey (Savannah) and Cameron. Mom had an extremely happy life surrounded by her family and many dear friends. Mary and Chris moved to Renabie, ON in 1953, where she proved her resilience to all by surviving a bitter cold winter alone while Chris was recovering in Sudbury from a mining accident. She learned the basics like chopping wood to warm her small cabin and managed to elude a large moose that year. They moved to Sudbury in 1955 and then resided in Garson in 1959. She worked her early years at DeMarco's Sporting Goods and then devoted her time to raising her family. Mary loved clouds, dogs, cats and children. It was rare for her to lose at Cribbage and she was a “poor cheater” when it came to Scrabble. As the years went on, she missed playing auction with her ""old-timer"" friends. Mary made the best turkey stuffing (amongst other things). Mom will be forever missed for her wisdom, sense of humor, kindness and gentle grace. In keeping with Mary’s wishes there will be no visitation or services. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory can be made directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. Interment will take place in the family plot at the St. John’s Cemetery, Garson at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Ranger’s Cremation and Burial Services Ltd.
