Joe Risko of Espanola passed away at the Espanola Regional Hospital on November 18th at the age of 82 after a battle with cancer. Beloved husband of Claudette (nee Lavoie) pre deceased. Dear son of Paul and Mary (nee Mihal) Risko predeceased. Loving brother of John (predeceased) and Paul (Brenda Polano) of Sudbury. Devoted father of Lisa (Keith Stringer) and Christa (Kurtis Mullen). Proud grandfather to Emma, Grace, Claudia and Carter.
Dad began his long career in the car business in 1963 as a salesman at Meredith Connelly Motors. He then worked for GMAC in Sudbury before moving the family to Espanola in 1976 when he became the dealer of Espanola Garage. Dad’s work family meant a great deal to him. He had many fond memories of his employees and customers over the years and formed many lifelong friendships. When dad wasn’t at work he could be found at the Espanola Golf Club or the Legion sharing a beer and laughs with friends Alex, Mel, Garnet and Al. Dad enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, hearing all about their lives and adventures. They were his greatest joy. A life long NFL fan he always cheered for the Green Bay Packers. His other passion was his lawn. He prided himself for having the best lawn in the neighbourhood.

The Bayshore staff, Jeannette and Pat for their care and compassion and Chris and Cheryl, who went above and beyond for all the support given to dad at home.
Following his wishes, he will be laid to rest along with mom. Cremation with a graveside service on November 28th at 11 AM at the Espanola cemetery. We invite friends and family to join us at Lisa’s house, 717 Queensway Ave. to share memories and enjoy a beverage like mom and dad would want.
