In loving memory of N. Ian Robb 79 years. It is with profound sadness and devastating heartbreak that the family announces the passing of a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle, teacher, neighbour and friend. Passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Sunday, June 12th, 2022 at Health Sciences North.

Devoted husband of 50 years to Barbara (nee Johnston). Loving and proud father of Timothy (Danielle), and Dorothy (Curtis). Predeceased by his parents Norman and Dorothy Robb (nee Ralfs), sister Elizabeth and brother-in-law Keith. Survived by his siblings Leslie (Roberta), Rosemary, Alan (Leigh Ann), Dorothy (Eric), and sisters-in-law Betty-Ann (Keith), Dorothy (Ben predeceased), Leila and brothers-in-law Peter and Donald (Jennie). He will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, his canine companion Becky, and pet bird Lemon.

Ian was born and raised in Princeton, British Columbia. He was the oldest of six children. He went to UBC for his undergraduate and master’s degrees in Math and Physics and to Simon Fraser University for his doctoral studies where he met his wife Barbara. Ian married in 1972 and taught at Laurentian University’s Physics Department from 1970 to 2004. He loved teaching and was highly respected by his colleagues and students. Ian was a gentleman and a scholar. He had a thirst for knowledge. He was very curious and loved lifelong learning. In his retirement he continually took courses in physics, mathematics and photography. He loved to read and had a particular interest in history, science, nature and religion.

He attended Knox Presbyterian Church and he was a devout follower of Christ. He enjoyed hosting a weekly bible study. Ian had many interests. He was a very social person and enjoyed entertaining. He was an excellent cook and loved to bake for family and friends. Ian enjoyed spending time in nature, gardening, stargazing, swimming, canoeing, fishing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. He also enjoyed playing tennis and took an interest in woodworking and genealogy. He loved listening to music, playing the piano and the guitar.

He had a collection of tools for both the kitchen and his workshop. He liked to have the right tool for the job and he confidently tackled any project head on. Above all, Ian was committed to his family and was proud of his two wonderful children. He loved his family deeply and grew more in love with his best friend and wife with every passing year. They would have celebrated their 50th anniversary this September 2nd. The world is a lesser place without him. We will love him forever and will carry him in our hearts until we meet again. The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Ben Lafleur and nurse Jason at Health Sciences North – Emergency for their kindness and care.
