Santoro, Palmo

August 31, 2009

SANTORO, Palmo (Tony) - In loving memory of Palmo Santoro (Tony) who passed away peacefully Thursday night, August 27 at Sudbury Regional Hospital, Laurentian site. He was born in Piane Crati, Cosenza, Italy where he married Rita Santoro (Vigna) in 1948. Tony came to Sudbury, December 1949 where wife Rita and daughter Maria joined him in June 1950. Tony had many passions. We knew the Fall has arrived when the smell of crushed grapes permeated the house. He was passionate and worked diligently at his garden till the age of 85 producing prized tomatoes, some growing to 3 pounds. Tony generously shared his bountiful harvest and capicola with family, friends and neighbours. He worked as a crane man at INCO for over 30 years, retiring in 1982. Many people build castles in their minds, Tony painstakingly crafted many in wood, as well as other furniture masterpieces. He was multi-talented and was proudest of sharing these talents with anyone in need of his skills. He was a devout member of Our Lady of Hope, always sitting in his usual second row seat. He was a life member of the Caruso Club. Beloved husband of Rita Santoro (Vigna), predeceased. Loving father of Maria and Luigi (Lisette Bernier) and special “adopted son“ Frank (Rita) Santoro, all of Sudbury. Dear son of Francesco Santoro (Serafina Amato) and stepmother Maria Borelli (all predeceased). Predeceased by siblings Giuseppe (Pat), Carmine (Liliana of Sudbury), Vincenzo (Giuseppina), Barbara (Alfonso), Filomena (Michele), Rev. Sister Maria Lucia, Aurelia, Immacolata of Italy (Salvatore). Dear brother-in-law of Anna (Ernesto, predeceased) of Italy, Sam, predeceased (Erminia of Sudbury) and Armando (Candida) of Sudbury, Francesco (Helen, predeceased) of Chicago. Sadly missed by many nephews, nieces, grand-nephews and grand-nieces and friends. Resting at the LOUGHEED FUNERAL HOME, 252 Regent st. at Hazel Street.
