It is with much sadness, the family of Howard Shirley shares the announcement of his passing, on May 12th, 2023.

Howard began his life on May 16th, 1946 to Leo Shirley and Yvette (Talbot) (both predeceased)

He grew up happily alongside his five brothers, Harold, Clayton (Jamelle) Donald (Tetiana) Raymond (Nicole) and David (Irene).

Although Howard experienced many passions and great roles in his life, the greatest source of his pride was becoming a father to his three children David, Ken (Mother Christine Antonioni)

and beloved father to Shannon Shirley (Mother, Sharron Mac Donald) for the last 15 yrs of his life, a Papa to his Granddaughter, Ava Landry aka Vava.

A man that wore many hats and finessed every interest he chose, Howard worked up until his retirement in the mining and sales industry at Maslack supply, Jarvis Clark Elliot Lake & Sudbury, Sandvik and Cast Recourse.

He possessed a remarkable talent musically, and entertained many audiences with his keen ability to play any instrument he picked up. Howard was an accomplished pilot, as well as an avid outdoorsman; a testament to his upbringing with his brothers at their family cottage on Red Deer Lake.

Undoubtedly, Howard left lasting and cherished memories in many people's lives. In the golden era of his own, he shared a special bond with his cousin and friend, Barry Zyma. He, and Barry enjoyed many afternoons of adventure together out on their motorcycles, and were looking forward to a big ride down south this summer, to visit their Uncle George and friends. We know that he will be doing this still, only, from above us all.

In honour of this kind hearted and gentle man who adored his furry companions like family, we ask, and deeply appreciate donations in his name to Pet Save Sudbury, a wonderful local rescue that Howard adopted his last beloved feline family member from, Dolly.

The family wishes to thank all of those who have reached out in every way, during these last few difficult days. As each day lessens the pain of our loss, we have gained some peace in reflecting on memories of Howard, and the large life he lived. To celebrate Howard's legacy, his family will be hosting a gathering of friends and family this summer, and hope to bask in stories, music and laughter - just as he would have wanted.
