It is with great sadness the family regretfully announces the passing of Christopher “Chris” William Slack, who passed away suddenly on January 12, 2022, at the age of 68. Beloved husband of Nicole Slack (nee Brabant) of 38 years. Loving father of David (predeceased), Jenny (Andrew) and Kelly (Jordan). Cherished “Grampa” to Breckin, Tenley, and Elijah. Dear son of the late Daniel and Edna Slack (nee Donovan). Beloved brother of Dianne, Danny (late Margaret), Adele (Greg), Steve (late Brenda), Cindy (Dennis) and predeceased by Nancy. Brother-in-law to the many of Nicole’s siblings and uncle to many nieces and nephews.

For 35 years, Chris was a devoted member of the Scotiabank family in Northern Ontario, mostly in Sudbury. He will be fondly remembered by many colleagues and community members.

For over 6 years, Chris fought a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease (complicated by Multiple Systems Atrophy). Chris’ determination and commitment to living well with the disease was admirable and evident throughout his entire journey.

Chris’ love for reading and writing at an early age led him to graduating from Queen’s University with a BA (Hons.) in English Literature. He loved sports, and not just as a spectator: he was a great athlete, playing baseball for many years on various teams, as well as basketball and golf. Travelling, he did. Numerous Caribbean trips were taken with his soulmate over the years, accompanied by their longtime travelling companions, the Donovans and the Starrs.

One of Chris’ proudest achievements was writing a book about his life, which he published with great determination and devotion in the summer of 2021. For Chris, the thing that mattered the most was his family, a value which is reflected throughout his book.

Chris had a great sense of humor, making jokes and getting people to smile even in the most strained of circumstances. One of his greatest passions in life was to help others. He was a kind soul who would make time for friends and strangers alike. Chris valued lending a helping hand to others in times of need, a value which he encouraged others to embrace as well. He always left those who had the good fortune to meet him better than he had found them. Chris will be missed dearly and our memories of him will forever be cherished.

At Chris’ request, a celebration of life will be held in his honour by the family at a later date. The family wishes to extend gratitude and appreciation to the wonderful staff on the third floor at St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre (Clarion site). Donations to Parkinson’s Canada (local Sudbury Chapter) would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted with Ranger’s Cremation and Burial Services Ltd. Whatever your labours and aspirations

in the noisy confusion of life,

keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams,

it is still a beautiful world.

Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.
